Casa Cortés has been producing mezcal in Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca since 1840 — making them one of the oldest and most respected mezcal families in Mexico. Agave de Cortés Joven is their flagship expression, and it’s a masterclass in what thoughtful, unhurried production tastes like.
100% Espadín agave, estate grown and hand-harvested at full maturity. Roasted in a conical earthen pit over oak, crushed by traditional stone tahona, fermented in open-air pine vats with wild native yeast, and double distilled in small copper pot stills. Mezcal Artesanal — every step by hand, no mechanization.
The nose opens with gentle smoke, ripe vegetal agave, and delicate floral notes. On the palate, 45% ABV brings bright acidity and impressive layers — lemongrass, damp earth, clay minerality, and a hint of fruit wrapped in a rich, silky texture. The finish is clean, warm, and distinctly Oaxacan.
One of the most approachable and honestly priced artisanal mezcals on the market. Exceptional neat, exceptional in cocktails.
